The disclosure was made through a press release accompanied by a confiscation of 827 tablets of hard drugs category G along with a number of psychotropic items found in the kiosk's storage.
According to the release, the enforcement action followed an information report from residents regarding the alleged sale of prescription drugs without a doctor's prescription, and medications restricted by law, in a relatively quiet neighborhood known for cafes and residential complexes. The kiosk in question, which also sells ordinary daily necessities, is considered a strategic distribution point because of its proximity to densely populated settlements and its accessibility to students and workers in the southern Jakarta area.
The Metro Jaya Regional Police explained that the confiscation process was carried out in an orderly manner by conducting an investigation, securing the premises, and then conducting an inventory accompanied by witnesses and the kiosk owner as the suspect. All types of drugs found were recorded in a formal seizure report and subsequently submitted for laboratory examination in order to determine the content and classification of the substances.
Classification of Drugs and Legal Basis
Officers state that hard drugs category G are drugs that require a doctor's prescription for medical use. Outside of medical indications, these types of drugs are widely misused for recreational purposes, particularly among young people, for their perceived effects. Meanwhile, psychotropic substances are substances that affect the central nervous system and can alter a person's perception, mood, and behavior.
"The presence of these items in a kiosk that does not have a pharmaceutical license is a clear indication that there is a distribution network that does not comply with the rules," said the Director of Narcotics Crime Investigation (Dirresnarsba)的环境中 Metro Regional Police Jaya in the release.
The handling of the case is stated to be based on Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, in conjunction with Law No. 5 of 1997 concerning Narcotics, which regulates the classification, production, distribution, and trade in narcotics and psychotropic substances. In addition, the authorities also pay attention to the provisions regarding the prohibition of distributing prescription drugs without a doctor's prescription as regulated in the health law and the criminal code.
Investigation and Suspect Status
Investigators emphasize that the inquiry into the 827 seized tablets is still ongoing by tracing the origin of the goods, the supplier, and the distribution chain. The Metro Jaya Regional Police also opened a line of investigation regarding whether the kiosk owner knew the content of the goods he was selling, or whether the storage of prescription drugs category G and psychotropic substances in the premises was without any knowledge of their status.
"We are not stopping at the seizure. We will trace who supplied the goods, who bought them, and how the distribution network works. All parties involved, from suppliers to sellers, will be processed according to applicable rules," affirmed the release.
The case is expected to proceed to the investigation stage by the prosecutor's office (penuntut umum), with the case file and the results of the laboratory examination as the basis for subsequent proceedings. The suspect, if proven, faces a prison sentence and a fine in accordance with the narcotics law.
Education and Public Appeals
Several months ago, the Metro Jaya Regional Police Narcotics Directorate has intensified operations in the South Jakarta area by conducting raids at several points suspected of circulating narcotics, including illegal pills and traditional drugs. In connection with the latest disclosure, the investigators again remind the public that the purchase and circulation of hard drugs category G without a doctor's prescription is a criminal act.
"We ask the public not to buy drugs without a doctor's prescription, including from kiosks or other places that are not pharmacies. Using prescription drugs without medical supervision is dangerous for health and is a criminal offense," said the release.
TheNEW and the Metro Jaya Regional Police also appealed to parents, teachers, and schools to remain alert to the circulation of restricted drugs in the school and residential environments. Cases of misuse of category G drugs have frequently been linked to the misuse of drugs among teenagers, so prevention through education and supervision in the immediate environment is considered important.
Residents in the Pondok Pinang area, Kebayoran Lama, are advised to report any suspicious transactions involving prescription drugs or psychotropic substances to the nearest police station or to the Metro Jaya Regional Police Narcotics Directorate. Reports can be submitted either in person or through existing official channels. Meanwhile, the seized drugs have been stored and registered in accordance with applicable procedures, and the case handling process continues to be carried out in earnest.
