PT Jasa RaharjaOOL sanctions handed over three heirs of passengers killed in the sinking of theKM Virgo Transport 8 in Jawa Timur, with each family receiving Rp50 million in compensation. The handover was carried out by Jasa Raharja’s President Director, Muhammad Awaluddin, in Surabaya on Saturday (3/10/2026). According to the company, the three victims who had been positively identified were Yudhiarisandi, Yudis Tri Kurniawan, and Gondham Prakoso, all of whom died in the incident.

In his written statement, Awaluddin expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and affirmed that the direct handover of compensation forms part of the company’s commitment to guarantee that the rights of victims and their families are fulfilled swiftly, accurately, and in accordance with prevailing regulations. He stressed that the families should not be left to shoulder the burden alone during a period of grief.

Awaluddin explained that since the evacuation operation was launched, Jasa Raharja has stationed officers in Kalimantan Selatan and Jawa Timur. These personnel were deployed through a number of service posts that the company had prepared in advance. At each post, officers provided assistance to survivors, guaranteed access to medical and treatment services, and simultaneously conducted data collection and verification of victims’ identities.

He emphasised that the post-deployment framework was designed so that documentation and services would proceed in parallel rather than sequentially, thereby shortening the waiting period for families awaiting news of their relatives. The company, he added, would maintain coordination with the relevant authorities throughout the search, evacuation, and identification stages.

Based on the company’s records as of 2 October 2026, a total of 188 people had been evacuated. The figure comprised 108 survivors and 80 fatalities. Of the 80 who died, 63 victims had already been identified, while 172 individuals remained in the identification process handled jointly by the Tim Disaster Victim Identification (DVI).

The identification process involves matching physical characteristics, personal information, and other supporting data supplied by the families and ship operators. Awaluddin stated that the identification work continues to run alongside the ongoing search for victims who have not yet been located.

Awaluddin reported that Jasa Raharja had covered all treatment costs for 21 injured passengers, all of whom have since been medically cleared to return home. Furthermore, 60 heirs of deceased victims had already received compensation payments, and the company had also financed the burial expenses of three victims.

He confirmed that the search, evacuation, and identification operations remain ongoing, and assured that Jasa Raharja would continue to coordinate with the authorities concerned in order to monitor the progress of the handling efforts and to ensure that the entitlements of every victim are acted upon without exception.

TheKM Virgo Transport 8 incident is among the maritime accident cases in which the insurance compensation scheme under the passenger service insurance framework was activated. PT Jasa Raharja reiterated that the compensation handover to the three heirs in Jawa Timur forms part of a broader service implementation covering survivors, fatalities, and the burial arrangements of victims from the same incident.
